In today's tech-savvy world, you can find DIY videos for just about anything, including roof repairs and roof replacements. However, watching videos on YouTube won't give you all of the information you need to complete a project as big as replacing your home's roof. When it comes to a task of this magnitude, it's best to leave the heavy lifting to a professional Reno roofing company. So, instead of putting yourself and your family at risk by attempting to fix your own roof, take a look below to see why it's worth it to hire a qualified roofing contractor.
Roofing can be a dangerous job, even for professional roofers. "Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry..." (OSHA, 7). You put yourself at great risk of injury, or even death when you try to tackle a project of this nature. Luckily, professional roofing contractors are trained and experienced in working on top roofs and are familiar with proper safety protocols. Fall protection (the use of harnesses, ropes, etc.) is ladder safety is essential to roof safety. It is also vital to have the proper tools and know how to handle them. By hiring a Reno roofing company, you not only save time and money; but you experience peace of mind as well.
A lot of the time people take on DIY projects to save money. However, it may actually cost you more to replace or repair your roof yourself. Unless you already have all the necessary and proper tools and equipment to do a roofing job, then you'll have to spend an abundance of money to get these items. Look up basic tools like compressors or nails guns and you will see how quickly it adds up. You'll also be responsible for purchasing all of your own roofing materials, permits, and back-up materials and tools that are needed to complete the project. And if something does go wrong, because roofing can be unpredictable if you're not a licensed contractor, you may find yourself paying more money to have mistakes properly fixed.
Hiring a Reno roofing company may seem expensive at first, but it's actually much more cost-effective than if you decided to do the job yourself.
If this is your first attempt at a roof replacement project, chances are you'll be working at it for a while. If you succeed, you might save a little bit of money, but you'll have spent a lot of precious time doing so. tearing off an existing roof is a lot of manual labor not many people are prepared for and installing the roof is hard on your back and knees. Don't forget to factor in recovery time for those aches and pains. Also, if you make a major mistake, you'll either have to work longer to repair the problem or you'll likely have to call a professional to fix it. Instead of wasting valuable time, and money, call a Reno roofing company first. A professional contractor has the experience and skill to get the job done more quickly and efficiently, which saves you both time and money.
It takes a certain level of skill and experience to properly install a new roof or make roof repairs. For example, if you come across a problem such as faulty equipment, a professional roofer will be more capable of dealing with such an issue. Also, the quality of work will prove to be much better as well. Practice makes perfect, and if you haven't worked on a roof before, it may not be as functional or sturdy as it needs to be. Roofing is not just nailing shingles to wood, it is ensuring the pipes, chimneys and walls are properly sealed. Not to mention knowing how to install shingles in a valley to ensure it is watertight. Your roof is what protects the interior of your home. When it comes to something as serious as your home's roof, you should use the most qualified and experienced professionals available.
You may be equipped at home with an extensive tool collection, but that doesn't mean they're right for the job. Roofers use specific tools and equipment to replace roofs that you may not have laying around at home. This means you'll either have to buy the proper tools which can be expensive for one-time use, or you'll be unprepared and ill-equipped to complete the project. Fortunately, hiring a professional roofing contractor will ensure the quality of tools and products used on your roof. Rather than struggling with improper tools or overspending on tools to get your roof done, leave it to the professionals at East Fork Roofing.
Using a professional roofing contractor or roofing company will help you avoid a lot of unnecessary expenses and risks. Energy efficiency has become a growing concern for homeowners. One of the most effective ways to improve this is by investing in energy-efficient roofing systems. Not only will an energy-efficient roof save you money on your electric bill, but it’s also beneficial for the environment as well. Check out the different ways you can enhance your roof, and improve your energy efficiency.
Powered roof vents draw additional air through your attic space which reduces the amount of hot air that gets trapped in the attic. While it’s more common for homes in warmer climates to have these, homes in cold climates could also benefit from powered roof vents. Having proper attic ventilation will help make your roof system last longer and prevent further damage to framing and sheathing caused by moisture that naturally occurs in an attic. Letting hot, moist air remain in your attic can cause damage, and increasing the flow of air through the attic can help prevent this.
Other benefits of having proper attic ventilation are:
Radiant heat barriers can help reduce cooling costs by up to 10%. The barriers are installed in homes, typically in the attic, as a way to reduce heat from the sun and improve energy efficiency. The materials used to create the barriers are highly reflective which reflects heat and prevents it from being absorbed into your home. The radiant barriers are used to reduce radiant heat gain, unlike other techniques that work to slow the conductive heat flow.
Also, because heat is constantly moving from hot areas to cool areas, radiant heat barriers will prevent heat from transferring. This will allow the cool air to stay cool.
Energy-efficient roofing systems will be more effective if they are accompanied by additional insulation. Added attic insulation will help lower the reliance on using heating oil and natural gas to warm your home. This can help lower heating costs by 10-50%. Additional insulation can help control your home’s temperature and protect it from heat, cold, and humidity.
You would have to use a separate company to install extra insulation, but you can get this done at the same time as a Reno roof replacement.
Malarkey shingles are not only an option to enhance your home’s energy efficiency, but they are also environmentally friendly. These shingles are made from recycled materials some of their lines and contain granules that have been proven to reduce smog levels. Also, these shingles are available in a variety of colors, some of which are solar reflective. This is what makes them a more energy-efficient option in Reno roofing materials. Having solar reflective shingles will help reflect heat from the sun’s rays, and help keep your home cooler.
While having added insulation and powered roof vents will improve your energy efficiency, these alone may not be enough to prevent heat from penetrating through your roof. Installing a reflective rooftop is the most effective method for preventing excessive heat. You want to avoid allowing heat to get through your roof because it will warm up attics and top floors, causing your air conditioning unit to work much harder. Luckily, homeowners are able to choose more energy-efficient roofing materials on their own thanks to the federal ENERGY STAR program. ENERGY STAR labeled materials are highly solar reflective and have proven to be more effective than other types of roofing materials.
East Fork Roofing can help you get a high-quality Reno roofing that is also energy efficient. Their trained team of Reno roofing specialists thrive on providing high-quality customer service that will leave homeowners feeling confident about their new roof. Are you struggling to figure out when the best time to replace a roof is? There are a few things to consider when deciding the right time for a Reno roof replacement. Is your roof in desperate need of repairs right away? What’s the weather like in your area during the different seasons? And, more importantly, when is your roofer going to be available to get the job done?
It’s critical that you plan a roof replacement according to your needs and availabilities. The best time to have your roof replaced really depends on you. It’s important that you plan ahead for this is a big job. You should get at least 3 quotes from different roofing Reno companies to ensure you get the best price possible. And while you’re calling around for estimates, be sure to ask about their availability and scheduling options. Here’s some more tips for choosing the best time to have your roof replaced:
If you’re planning on having your roof replaced during the spring season, you should know that it’s best to schedule for this in the winter. Scheduling a roof replacement early on, before you plan on having the services done, will ensure that you can get a spot in the books and gives you adequate time to prepare yourself.
Many people start thinking about having their roof replaced in the spring. This is partially due to the weather change because it’s easier to perform maintenance on your home when the weather isn’t so frigid. But, it’s also because winter weather can be damaging to an older roof. This means repairs are more likely to be necessary following a heavy winter.
Spring is considered the best time for most areas of the U.S. to have a roof replaced because of the weather. Asphalt shingles require time to adhere to the roof and create a sealing that sets the shingles in place. It’s easiest for this to happen if it’s not too hot or cold out which is why spring is considered the best time to plan a roof replacement. There are still weather conditions to consider during the spring, such as rain, that can delay the process. As long as your roofing Reno contractor comes fully prepared this shouldn't be a problem, but it's still important to take this into consideration.
Another good reason to consider purchasing during winter and installing in spring is because some roofers offer lower pricing during the winter in an effort to keep everyone busy. Most construction businesses see the biggest drop in sales from Christmas to Tax Day (most likely due to money constraints created by Christmas and alleviated by tax refunds). Because of this, some roofers may discount their prices during this slow period.
With the weather staying consistently warm, summer makes a good time for contractors to install a new roof. Not only does the summer weather provide better working conditions, but the materials and tools needed to complete the job will better function as well. More specifically, late spring to early summer is the most prime time for a roof replacement to happen. There’s less chance of rain, and it isn’t too hot yet, which makes it perfect for Reno roofing contractors to start construction on.
It’s important to keep in mind that summer is a VERY busy time for roofers because of the optimal weather conditions. This means that scheduling an appointment may be difficult and should be made early on. Also, keep the pricing in mind. Prices are going to be higher during the busier seasons, so you should account for this when you plan the best time to have your roof replaced.
Be wary of choosing a time of year where the area you live in is extremely hot. The blistering heat can affect working conditions which will consequently affect working hours. This can lead to unwanted delays. And, high temperatures can cause asphalt shingles to melt which will make them less durable, resulting in damaged pieces. Try to avoid torrid weather conditions and schedule around the hottest part of the summer season.
If you research when is the best time to replace a roof, most results will come up as fall being the best time. As stated earlier, this is when roofing companies are the busiest. Most people are trying to prepare for the winter season and it’s common for roof repairs to be on that list of things to get done.
Fall is a great time to have your roof replaced because the temperature’s generally don’t get below 45°F or get above 85°F. There’s also very little rainfall. This allows shingles to set and seal properly without the use of special tools or techniques. The weather also lets roofers work longer days and can get the project finished faster.
It is very important to remember how busy this time of year is for roofing contractors, so you should book your roof replacement early in advance. Booking too late can result in delay and sometimes contractors are even forced to take on roofs that are in serious need of repair, forcing your replacement to be pushed back. If you are planning on having your roof replaced in the fall, you should plan it at least 2 months in advance.
Winter is not the most convenient time to have your roof replaced, but in cases of emergency or if it’s the only time you have in your schedule to have it done, it can be done. Because of the freezing temperatures, winter can pose a lot of problems for replacing your roof. If temperatures remain below 40*F for more than a month then thermal sealing is delayed and wind damage can occur until the temperatures rise high enough for the seal to activate. Shingles need adequate heat in order to seal and set properly and in the winter this can sometimes take days or even weeks to happen. Snow, extreme cold, and sleet can also make working conditions unsafe for contractors. This may cause delays on the progress of your roofing Reno project, which is not ideal in the winter.
While you may be concerned about the quality of your roof if you decide to have it replaced in the winter, you should know this isn’t true. Most roofing Reno companies are prepared for all sorts of inclement weather.
There are some benefits to having a roof replacement done in the winter though. For instance, you won’t be competing for time slots because most people avoid such repairs in the winter. And, if you’re lucky, you could also potentially get a discount on services because most companies are pretty slow during this season.

Recently, Reno, NV came in second place as “The Windiest City in the U.S. in 2016” according to the research and consulting firm CoreLogic. To arm your roof with the best defenses against Reno’s gusts, Reno's very own roofing company, East Fork Roofing, highly recommends that you choose to go with shingles that come with the appropriate wind warranty.
East Fork Roofing was started in the mid 90’s by roofing contractor, Clay Davis, who resides in the Carson City area. He has been servicing Reno/Carson throughout that time and knows a thing or two about installing roofs in a high wind area. He taught his son, Mike, these principles from a young age and now Mike owns and operates East Fork Roofing, LLC out of Sparks, NV.
East Fork Roofing is roofing company in Reno and nearby cities, so they are familiar with the Northern Nevada area and its windy weather conditions. As far as shingles go, the first order of business is to avoid 3-tab shingles if you live in a high wind area. These shingles are flat and only have a wind warranty up to 60 mph. Here is a photo that illustrates the 3-tab shingles:
And here is what it looks like when they blow off:
East Fork Roofing, for the past 15-20 years, has been using a stronger “dimensional shingle”. These sturdier shingles can withstand winds up to 130 mph. Protection up to 60 mph just isn’t enough when you take into consideration that according to the RGJ, Reno saw wind speeds up to 90 mph last year. Here you can see the superior shingles:
When it comes to wind conditions in Northern Nevada, choose roofing companies in Reno NV like East Fork Roofing that use products from Malarkey and Certainteed, both of which carry wind warranties up to 130 mph. They also come with manufacturing warranties should there be any defects. If you wanted even more protection there is also an option from Malarkey for a heavyweight shingle that resists winds up to 140 mph. Lastly, East Fork installs your shingles correctly with the right type, spacing and amount of nails so that your shingles have less of a chance of blowing away in the first place. EFR also covers their workmanship with a generous 5-year service warranty.
So, if you have 3-tab shingles and/or are missing shingles, call East Fork Roofing LLC today for a free roof replacement quote at 775-800-7663. (Clay's contractor’s license is now under the name “Clay Davis” and the number is # 0058079, while East Fork Roofing LLC’s number is #0081744.)

Much more than just plywood sheeting to which shingles are attached, a roof’s sheathing is the glue that holds an entire roof together. Roof sheathing is ultimately what keeps your roof structurally sound, as it stabilizes the rafters and supports the roofing materials. East Fork Roofing, a roofing company in Reno and Northern Nevada, strongly believes in maintaining your roof sheathing.
Roof sheathing also helps keep the roof trusses and rafters properly spaced, which allows for contraction and expansion with seasonal weather changes. Most often made out of materials such as plywood or OSB, these installations can vary based on budget and weather conditions.
In any case of roof replacement or repair, we will check for bad sheathing, which include sheathing that will not hold the nail properly due to dry rot or moisture, or the usage of inferior building materials. In an average home, there are 2-5 sheets, and in cases of bad sheathing, we will replace each bad 4’x8’ sheet individually.
During our planning inspection, we will walk the entire roof to see if it is overly spongy. If this is the case, we will approximate the costs prior to the project. As a general rule, approximately 1 in 500 roofs will have an issue where the cost to replace each sheet individually will be more than if a second layer of sheathing had been installed. With East Fork Roofing Reno, the customer can feel free to cancel or postpone the project until they get a second opinion.
Prior to the invention of plywood, a type of sheathing was used where wood planks were installed. These generally consisted of 1”x8” or 1”x12” planks installed with small gaps between them.
If your roof was installed with this sheathing style, you will experience problems when it comes time for your roof to be replaced or fixed. Due to the gaps all over the plywood, a significant percentage of nails will not hit solid wood when shingles are being installed, increasing the chance for shingle blowoff and roof leakage. We will require that a layer of sheathing be installed prior to installing your new roof so that these gaps do not exist.
During the 70s and 80s, a fad emerged where shake roofing was installed over 1”x 8” boards spaced approximately 4-6” apart. To resolve this, after the old shakes are removed, sheathing must be installed to provide a proper substrate to which the shingles can be attached.
If your roof was installed with shake roofing, it is time to get a replacement done the right way with a qualified and experienced roofing company.
Structural Integrity: When done correctly, sheathing is not only a base for laying down shingles, but also adds to the structural integrity of the home is it ties all the trusses and rafters together.
Soundproofing: Laying down a layer of plywood or OSB helps to add an additional layer of soundproofing from rain, storms, or other weather conditions.
There are generally two types of sheathing that are used most often by professional roofing Reno contractors, plywood and OSB, each having their own advantages.
OSB is a less expensive option, although it has been considered to be lower quality as well. However, there are many benefits and advantages of OSB over plywood. OSB is generally more square and can be made into much larger sheets. It is also very strong, and the screw hold measures equally with plywood.
When moisture enters the picture, plywood performs much better though. Unlike OSB, when plywood expands from water exposure, it expands evenly throughout the panel and then returns back to normal thickness, whereas OSB expands unevenly around the edges and will expand up to 15% of its normal size.
A professional roofing contractor can evaluate your needs and decide which sheathing material is the best fit. Though OSB and plywood are the most popular options, others include strawboard, gypsum and foam sheathing.
Unless you are an experienced contractor, you shouldn’t try to replace or lay your roof’s sheathing as it is the framework of your home. Professional roofing companies in Reno NV like East Fork Roofing are able to select the proper materials and fasteners for your home. If you are in need of roof sheathing or replacement, let our experts evaluate your roofing needs and install the best sheathing for your house. Let us set you up with a free quote!
Since 2005, East Fork Roofing has been Northern Nevada’s roof replacement specialist serving the community with quality service. As a family owned and operated roofing company in Reno NV, we take pride in our work and strive to keep a reputation of quality, honesty, and integrity. In addition to our strong company values, East Fork Roofing is a roofing company that offers a number of features that set us apart from other roofing companies in Reno, NV.
Our roof replacement process begins with a unique proposal designed to provide a highly-detailed quote, in as little as 72 hours, without the hassle of having to meet with us for a site visit. Unlike other roofing Reno contractors, who require a site visit to be able to quote the project, East Fork Roofing has a sophisticated estimating system that allows us to quote the roof replacement before visiting the site. We have developed a thorough, multi-step proposal process that is customized to each customer, yet still time efficient.
The first step of our process is to measure every aspect of the roof using specialized aerial-imagery software. In addition to recording these measurements, we also conduct a risk and scenario analysis. Based on a combination of this data, East Fork Roofing company Reno, NV is able to generate a roof replacement proposal which outlines the base cost and pricing for specific scenarios that may apply to your individual project.
Once the proposal has been accepted by the customer and down payment has been made, the next step is to conduct a “planning inspection.” East Fork Roofing will send out the foreman who will be responsible for executing the project and they will perform this inspection. The experienced foreman will complete an in-depth analysis and determine if any of the proposed scenarios apply. In addition, the foreman will plan the details of the execution of the project including a project safety plan, property protection plan, building code evaluation, and trash removal plan. Most other Reno roofing contractors do not create this plan until the day of execution or just fly by the seat of their pants.
The next step is the plan review by our scheduler, together with the project manager. This second pair of eyes is key in ensuring customer satisfaction.
The final step in this process is a review of the plan with the customer. We believe this is the most important part, which many of our competitors leave out. Our customers really appreciate this step of the process because it allows them to know, in detail, how we plan to execute the proposed project, seek clarification and give input. These last two steps are what excites our customers most because most tradespeople do not communicate details.
There is one last step, which is not actually part of the proposal process, but is key to the difference we represent. At the end of the project, the same Foreman who completed the planning inspection, completes a quality inspection. This is completed to ensure the project was executed as agreed. We call this our closed-loop quality process.
East Fork Roofing offers financing in the form of traditional interest loans. We prefer to use an outside finance company because they are financing experts and your financing remains private between you and the finance company. Most of our Reno roofing competitors either don’t offer financing or offer gimmicky financing.
Why do we only offer traditional interest financing? The short answer is that it does not add hidden costs to the project in the form of dealer fees.
In order to better understand the answer, we need to understand how financing including gimmicky (hidden cost) financing works.
Traditional interest financing looks like a loan with a fixed term, a fixed interest rate, and a fixed monthly payment. There are no surprises. There are also no dealer fees, meaning that there is no cost to us to offer them to you.
Gimmicky financing looks like 1 year same as cash or 0% interest or other offers that sound good at face value. The key to identifying gimmicky financing is the sleight of hand used to distract you away from the total price difference. Sometimes these types of finance programs actually save you money. Most of the time they do not. Here is how it works: Finance companies make money on interest. By offering, for example, a 0% interest for a year loan, the amount of money that a finance company makes would be reduced if they did not recover the money somewhere else. They recover the money for this reduction in interest rate by charging it back to the contractor in a reduction in the amount that they pay the contractor when the loan is finalized. This is done at a premium, meaning that the cost charged back to the contractor is higher than the amount saved to the customer by offering the loan. To offer this type of loan, the roofer has to either absorb the cost or build those costs into the price offered. These added costs are typically hidden by offering you more roof than you need in the form of unnecessary upgraded underlayments, warranties that will never be needed or used, or roofs that last longer than you will live.
The biggest reason why we don’t offer this type of financing is because we have not found a way to offer them without having high-pressure salespeople on our staff.
At East Fork Roofing, we understand that replacing a roof is an investment and requires serious consideration in terms of choosing the right company for the job. When searching for a roofing company in Reno and Northern Nevada areas, most people don’t get just one quote. Many people shop for different quotes and don’t want to get locked into a contract before they are sure. Because some of our competitors can take up to 30 days or longer to quote a roof and availability of project dates changes daily, waiting for 2 or 3 other quotes, puts the customer at a significant disadvantage to reserving the best date at the best price. To allow customers to commit with confidence, East Fork Roofing company in Reno offers free cancellation on all our projects.
With our free cancellation policy, each customer is able to receive a quote, book a project date, and then have the option to cancel within 10 days of the start date. Our goal is customer satisfaction, and this policy enables customers to reserve a date without feeling locked in and cancel the project for any reason. We always want to make sure East Fork Roofing is the right fit for your Reno roofing project, budget, and schedule.
Per NRS 624.331, the legal minimum for all licensed contractors to guarantee workmanship is 4 years. If any issues occur and are not resolved by a licensed contractor, the law provides a method by which you may file a complaint to have the Nevada State Contractors Board review the matter. Many of our competitors are guided only by this statute that binds them. East Fork Roofing Reno gives you more.
Along with East Fork Roofing’s 5-year workmanship guarantee, we also register the shingle warranty with the manufacturer on your behalf.
Another factor that sets East Fork Roofing apart from our competitors is our licensure in mobile home roof replacements. Nevada law requires a special license for any contractor to be authorized to do any work on a manufactured or mobile home. We are licensed by the state of Nevada Manufactured Housing Division to service mobile homes.
Also, most mobile homes have roofs which are lower slope than standard homes. For this reason, most mobile home roofs are actually more expensive than standard home roofs because they require specialized materials and methods to protect against the higher likelihood of leaking. Also, mobile homes are not permitted to have a second layer of roofing installed due to weight restrictions inherent in manufactured homes.
If the shingles on your house or mobile home are buckling, peeling, or lifting, get in touch with roofing companies in Reno NV. Contact East Fork Roofing, Reno’s roof replacement specialists, to get started today and get on your way to a new, long-lasting roof.
Most homeowners want a Reno roofing material that is high quality but not too costly. They also want a roof that requires little to no maintenance, basically a roof that will last for a lifetime. That is the ideal roof, but most roofing materials have a certain lifespan and will need to be replaced or repaired after every ten years. Homeowners should be careful in choosing roof materials so they can save on the cost of replacement. East Fork Roofing, a roofing company in Reno and surrounding areas, lists out the pros and cons of different types of roof materials.
There are a variety of roofing materials available on the market. These include asphalt shingles, cement and tile roofing, metal roofing and more. In selecting the kind of roofing material for your house, it should be based on these factors:
Knowing the pros and cons of available roofing materials that your roofing company in Reno has to offer will help you in your selection. Here are some of the most popular roof materials in use:
This is the most common roofing material in Reno and comprises for almost 80% of the housing market.
Pros: They are one of the most affordable roofing materials on the market. They have great wind and fire resistance and are moderate in weight.
Cons: Their lifespan is relatively short and they require a lot of maintenance. Asphalt shingles aren’t very durable or eco-friendly. If you are looking for a roofing material that needs little to no maintenance and lasts, asphalt shingles aren’t for you.
For a neat and clean look, composition shingles are great as they are affordable, too.
Pros: This type of roofing material comes in a variety of colors and brands. They are versatile and adaptable for different applications. Composition shingles are easy to install. In some applications, they can be put over the existing roof. They are low maintenance and most brands offer fire protection.
Cons: Composition shingles can be blown off in high winds and the material is easily scarred when hot. It also does not look like a tile or a shake. If you want a decorative roofing material, this is not for you.
Wood shakes are usually made from cedar but can also be made from other types of wood.
Pros: Wooden shingles give a unique and natural look, and it will add character. They are eco-friendly as they are made from natural and recyclable materials. It offers energy benefits like insulating the attic and allowing the house to breathe through ventilation. Wooden shakes are also relatively affordable.
Cons: Wooden shakes have low fire resistance unless specially coated or treated. This roofing material also has a shorter lifespan and needs more maintenance. The installation for this kind of roofing is more complicated than other roofing materials.
Clay tiles are a type of roofing material that is heavy and are atop most stucco homes. It’s a good choice for homes with a Spanish, Italian or Southwestern design.
Pros: Clay tiles are fired in a kiln, which can add to the energy efficiency of your home. It has a long lifespan, won’t rot, won’t be damaged by insects, not combustible and is low maintenance. It’s also available in many colors and has an attractive look.
Cons: Clay tiles are expensive and they can be broken in severe storms. They are also very heavy so they can be difficult to install. Also, because of their weight, it sometimes requires new reinforcements to the roof before they can be installed. Another con is that the colors might fade away.
Slates are shingle-like slivers of rock and they are used as a roofing material on upscale houses. It is an expensive material but offers a very clean and natural look in many different patterns.
Pros: Slates have a very long lifespan just like clay tiles. It also has good fire protection and is low maintenance. Slates have a very strong composition so they are invulnerable to rot and insects. Another benefit is that slates come in different colors and sizes.
Cons: Slate tiles are heavy and will sometimes require extra support, which can be expensive. They are also breakable so it’s not recommended for non-professionals to walk on it.
This kind of roofing material has become more popular, especially in modern houses. Concrete tiles are lightweight and are manufactured from different fiber-reinforced cement products. Some are coated with enamels, thin metals, or plastics.
Pros: They are long-lasting and very durable. They are also great fire-resistant materials and cost relatively cheaper than clay tiles. Concrete tiles can also fit in a variety of home designs and aesthetics.
Cons: The material may be less expensive compared to clay tiles, but it is still more expensive than asphalt shingles. Concrete tiles can break and crack during heavy winds and may require roof reinforcement due to its weight.
There are so many Reno roofing materials available on the market and most of them promise they can last up to 50 years. Be careful when selecting your roofing materials, especially from suppliers that don’t have a proven track record. If you are looking for a reliable roofing company in Reno with quality roofing contractor services, check out East Fork Roofing, a roofing company in Reno today!
A home wouldn’t be complete without its roof, right? And there is nothing worse than a leaky roof. It doesn’t only damage other parts of your home, it also causes you stress. In knowing the right Reno roofing company to hire to repair, fix and do your roof, you will have a peace of mind despite the problems. So, how do you sort out who is trustworthy and experienced? Below, we’ve listed helpful tips for finding and choosing the best Reno roofing company and get your money’s worth.
The roofing Reno contractor that you will choose to work for you should have a liability insurance and worker’s compensation. Before deciding to pick a roofer, ask if you can see the certificates they have. Take some time to check and call their insurance carrier to make sure that they are valid and authentic. This will avoid you from being held liable should any unwanted accidents happen. Insurance will also protect you if there will arise any issue with your roof in the future.
It’s a good choice to choose to go local. The number one reason to choose a local roofing contractor is there easier to contact if there’ll be any problems in the future. If you're torn in deciding between a roofer with a 5-year warranty who lives so far away versus a local roofer who only offers a 2-year warranty, it’s best to choose local. It won’t do you any good if you cannot contact or track them down at the end of that time. Also, make sure that this roofing Reno company is reputable and reliable in your community before hiring them.
Price is not everything so don’t ever decide who you hire based on how much they cost. It is understandable that you want to get a good deal on the roofing service you need, but the price shouldn’t be a determining factor for your decision. If you are looking for something cheap, they are all over the market. The problem with these cheap bids is that most of the time, you get what you pay for. If you want to have quality service and results, hire a roofing contractor based on their quality of work. Fees are high for a reason as a proper company will have proper insurance and licenses.
It may seem like a very good coincidence that some roofer came knocking at your door right when you need one. And while it may be convenient to hire them on the spot just because they “were in your neighborhood”, it’s not a very good decision to make. Steer clear of this. This is a canvassing and selling, and there is no way to know how well their workmanship is. It may be a quick fix but there is no guarantee that their work will last. Do your research before hiring a roofing company in Reno. Pick someone who has a solid background and history in this kind of work so you can get your money’s worth.
Deciding on a roofing Reno company, it’s important to remember that communication is key. Were your calls returned? Were you sent documentation when you asked for them? Did the roofer follow through? These questions should be answered with a yes. If not, then there is no proper communication here. Make sure to communicate and tell them your concerns. If it doesn’t work, it’s time to find another contractor.
Before paying the roofing Reno company you’ve finally chosen, get everything you’ve discussed in writing. This is to protect both you and the roofing contractor. Write down the details that both parties have agreed upon to make sure that all aspects of the job are understood. It’s suggested that you don’t make any payments until inspections are made and that the work is completed. You are the consumer here, it’s you that should be in control. Setting a clear expectation will avoid future frustrations.

One of East Fork Roofing's upgrade offerings on all replacement proposals is the option of ridge on rakes. Not all roofing companies in Reno, NV offer this service, but the purpose of this post is to help aid you in the decision of whether or not you want this upgrade for your roofing project.
Upgrading to ridge on rakes adds additional wind protection. That is because each ridge rake piece is nailed to the roof as well as the wood on the rake (which is called the fascia). This does not change the wind warranty provided (130 mph), but will provide added protection. Most customers feel the 130 mph wind warranty is sufficient, which is why adding ridge tends to mostly an aesthetic decision.
Here is a home without ridge on the rakes:
As you can see the roof has a sleek and clean appearance and still has great wind protection.
Here is a home that has ridge on the rakes:
The added ridge pieces brings additional beauty and additional wind protection to the home. One last thing to consider is that ridge on the rakes can create a more complicated experience when the home needs to be painted.
So, what do you think? Is ridge on the rakes for your home or do you prefer the more traditional look of a home without it? Regardless of what you decide, East Fork Roofing is one of the few roofing companies in Reno, NV that does both!
Roof replacement is a major project and also a big investment. And it means that you need the best roofing contractor for the job. Yet, knowing the right roofer to hire for your home can be a challenging task. You make a couple of phone calls, but more often than not, it’s not enough. When you find yourself in need of the best roofing Reno or Sparks contractor, here are some tips.
When looking for a professional roofer, insurance is a must. Make sure they have liability insurance, and worker’s compensation. To further check the validity of their insurance, you can call the insurance carrier. Doing this step will ensure that the services and cost of the roof are covered by the insurance.
Find a contractor that can guarantee you they can complete the work they promised to do. One of the ways to do it is to ensure that they have a permanent address and phone number. Visit their offices to see if they have the equipment and employees to finish your project.
When choosing a roofer, a local Reno roofing company would be a better choice. It doesn’t mean that they should be only local. They must have a reputation for delivering quality services in your local community. Knowing the roofing contractor's reputation will help you avoid potential problems. If you are in the Northern Nevada area, East Fork Roofing is the perfect choice for Reno roofing services.
Cheaper rates shouldn’t be your basis when hiring a roofer. Those who do work cheaper will only give you what you pay for. Make sure that price is not your sole criteria when looking for a roofing Reno company. Otherwise, you will end up spending more money to fix your problems. If you hire a reputable and insured roofing contractor, you won't have these issues.
There are some “we were in your neighborhood” roofers who knock on doors and try to sell you. These are some of the roofing companies in Reno, NV that you must avoid. They will tell you that you have storm damage but don’t give in to their antics. Instead, choose a roofing company in Reno with a reputation of having many satisfied clients. When you encounter these "storm chasers," it’s better to ask for a recommendation from your agent and make sure not to sign anything before you are sure.
Make sure that you and the roofing company agree to everything that you want to happen in the project. Make sure that all the details discussed about your agreement are documented. Get in writing the timeline, completion date, size of the crew and other details. Also make sure that both parties adhere to the agreement.
All reputable contractors must have a safety plan. So make sure that your potential roofer also has one. East Fork Roofing is a Reno roofing company that develops safety plans that will guarantee that projects will be completed.
While it’s okay to choose a company who has been in the roofing industry for a year or two, it's advisable to work with someone who has been doing the job for at least five years. If a roofing company has been in business for several years, it means that they have more experience. This also means better workmanship and better quality services for your roof.
